The Seguin PAGA was established in 1958, Founder of the club Mr Ben Gonzales Sr.
Ben "Mr Golf " as he was known would become the club's first President, Ben and six
other members would hold the first Seguin PAGA meeting. Members Johnny Rodriguez
Marciano Fuentes, Mike Arriola, Val Arriola, Nick Tellez and Joe Valdez. The seven
members would eventually invite others golfers in the Seguin area to join The Pan-
American Golf Association, within the year the membership grew from 7 to 25. This
membership was enough to qualify Seguin to participate in the Pan-Am State
Tournament, with cities such as San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Houston
and other cities. Seguin unknown and with less expreience golfers grew to the slogan
of "Quidado Con Seguin" at the state level. It was not long before Seguin became well
known for potentially winning at the state level.
In 1967 The "Big Trophy" was won by Seguin after 9 years of competing at the state
level. The state team was led by a Little Man (Won Medalist) Laurence Leal, other
team members were Ed (Lefty) De La Cruz, Marciano Gonzales, Zeke Gonzales.
To date Seguin is still winning at the now National Level.
Over the years many Men and Women have continued to contribute to stake down
the foundation of the club created by these members. Past Presidents like
Ben Gonzales Sr, Richard Leal, Ed De La Cruz, Joe Valdez Sr, Joe Valdez Jr,
Louis Volpe, Johnny Garcia and Ace De La Cruz just to name a few.
Together with their members they have worked hard to keep the clubs traditions.
One of the traditions established by the club is the Annual Easter Egg Hunt that
has now grown into a very big event over the years for the kids in the Seguin area.
And still getting bigger every year.
Over the years the 9 hole Max Starcke Park Golf Course is now a 18 hole golf
course and home to the Seguin Pan American Golfers Association.
